Trump Limiting Press Coverage
Wow. Just read this article by the Washington Examiner and was stunned. Here is an excerpt:
"[T]he Trump campaign, citing security concerns from Secret Service, dictated to the networks that their camera crews could only shoot Trump head-on from a fenced-in press pen," Blaine continued. "Under the Trump campaign's conditions, camera crews would not be able to leave the press pen during Trump's rallies to capture video of audience reactions, known in the industry as 'cutaway shots' or 'cuts.' Networks would also not be able to use a separate riser set up to get cutaway shots. The terms, which limit the access journalists have to supporters and protesters while Trump is speaking, are unprecedented, and are more restrictive than those put on the networks by the White House or Hillary Clinton's campaign, which has had Secret Service protection for its duration."
Add to the above The Donald refusing to participate in 2 presidential debates and we've got a candidate who is taking control of the media. And they're letting him.
Why?
It's all about money. Trump has created his own political reality show that is watched by millions and the media does not want to lose out on future revenue by alienating him. Thus it capitulates to his demands. Plain and simple.
You have to hand it to The Donald for doing the above. No other politician in our country has dared to challenge and control media coverage the way he has. He's found their Achilles heel ie the financial bottom line and is successfully taking advantage of it
However, is this Achilles heel of the media taking precedence over overall coverage of a political candidate running for president? Are we now only allowed to see what The Donald wants us to see and nothing more? Thus no more debates where he can be challenged nor coverage of protestors and how they are handled at his rallies? Are we now limited to only seeing the Trumpster in controlled interviews and/or environments with outlets of his choosing and ones that dare not show him in a negative light?
Definitely food for thought.
